Rhode Island's Unique Glass Blowing Artistry at Blackstone River Glass Center

​Rebecca Zhukov graduated from Alfred University’s College of Ceramics in 1990 with a BFA in Art
& Design with her focus on Glass. She started her first studio in Sea Cliff, New York in 1995
after spending four years honing her skills at Pilchuck School of Glass, Penland School of
Crafts, and apprenticing with glass sculptor Richard Jolley in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Over the next 28 years, Rebecca Zhukov ran three different private studios where her focus was
on wholesale and galleries. She won multiple awards for her craft and design during that time.

In February of 2022, Rebecca decided that she needed to expand their studio past
the 4500 square feet they occupied. After months of searching, she chanced upon a Historic
Mill building in Valley Falls, RI that was set right on the beautiful Blackstone River. The space
offered 20,000 square feet. She was only looking for 7,000! This was an all-or-nothing
opportunity. The space was vast and enormous and it sent Rebecca down a path of imagining
something much larger than them or what they had originally planned. This place could house
an entire glass school!

So the journey began.... Today we operate a hot shop for glassblowing, a fusing studio and a flameworking studio.

Blackstone River Glass was created to be a state-of-the-art glass studio but it is more than just that. It is also home to other artists who work in all disciplines of glass. Aside from a full glassblowing studio, BRG will be offering classes in lampworking, casting, slumping/fusing, and basic metal-working. We look forward to bringing students in from our neighborhoods and beyond to experience an art form that is not offered in any traditional education environment. BRG believes that through learning comes strength and dedication and satisfies our natural sense of curiosity.
