Service Description
This course requires completion of at least one Beginning Glassblowing 6 week Course or proof of experience. Each Course consists of 6 Weeks of Glassblowing. Class will meet for 3 hours once a week and take place on Monday evenings for a total of 3 hours. Please check our schedule to see which Course suits your schedule. Working with a professional glassblower to maximize learning and perfecting the skill of blowing glass. Intermediate Glassblowing Class - 6 -Week Syllabus Week 1: Introduction and Basic Skills • Topics: ◦ Class introduction and safety guidelines ◦ Warm-up exercises: Bottom-weighted spheres and bubble popping ◦ Demonstration: cup-making • Hands-On Practice: ◦ Create bottom-weighted spheres and cups • Homework/Resources: ◦ Review materials from Ed Schmidt books ◦ Watch suggested YouTube videos (e.g., Janusz Poźniak, Bill Gudenrath) Week 2: Cones • Topics: ◦ Warm-up: Bottom-weighted spheres ◦ Demonstration: Cone shapes ◦ Incorporating team activities, e.g., "punty ball" game (optional) ◦ Hands-On Practice: Create cone forms Week 3: Bowls • Topics: ◦ Warm-up: Bottom-weighted spheres ◦ Demonstration: Advanced bowl techniques ◦ Hands-On Practice: Draw and make Bowls Week 4: Exploring Frit Color Techniques • Topics: ◦ Demonstration: Frit techniques ◦ Introduction to creating colored frit vessels ◦ Hands-On Practice: Create first colored vessels Week 5: Optic Molds • Topics: ◦ Warm-up: Optic balls ◦ Demonstration: Optic Vessel ◦ Designing and creating a signature piece ◦ Create optic pieces and start designing a final project Week 6: Final Projects and Fun Demonstrations • Topics: ◦ Fun demos: Combining color, overlay, and optic techniques to help with specific design ideas • Hands-On Practice: ◦ Share final piece ideas ◦ Create final pieces ◦ Optional fun interactive demonstration to end the class If any classes are missed due to illness, students will have the opportunity to audit the class they missed during the next session. A fee will apply if a student has to audit more then one session.
